Battle Of the Chefs 2024 was aPenang State signature culinary competition organized by the Penang Chefs Association. Endorsed by Worldchefs as Continental Culinary Competition

The competition will be held on Spice Arena Penang, start from 27 to 29 June 2024.

Prizes, Awards & Certificates - GREENHORN AWARDS

Certificates of participation will be given to competitors who have completed all their registered classes. These can be collected at the secretariat on the day of the competition.

Medals will be awarded based on points attained:

- GOLD WITH DISTINCTION: 100 Points

- GOLD: 90 - 99 Points

- SILVER: 80 - 89 Points

- BRONZE: 70 - 79 Points

- DIPLOMA: 60 - 69 Points

Competitors must be in full chef uniform, including the chef’s torque, to receive the medals.

Overall Best GREENHORN Team Award:

- Cash Reward: RM 3000.00

- Awarded to the hotel, association, organization, or institution sending a minimum of FIVE (5) competitors in at least FIVE (5) different classes across FOUR (4) categories.

- The overall best team is selected based on the highest number of gold medals, followed by silver and bronze in their best FOUR (4) categories.

Overall Outstanding GREENHORN Chef Award:

- Cash Reward: RM 1500.00

- Awarded to the competitor with at least ONE (1) Gold Medal (gold with distinction considered as gold) in the BEST FOUR (4) classes across FOUR (4) categories.

Most Outstanding GREENHORN Chef Patissier Award:

- Cash Reward: RM 1000.00

- Awarded to the competitor with at least ONE (1) Gold Medal (gold with distinction considered as gold) in the BEST THREE (3) classes in the Patisserie category.

Most Outstanding GREENHORN Chef Artist Award:

- Cash Reward: RM 1000.00

- Awarded to the competitor with at least ONE (1) Gold Medal (gold with distinction considered as gold) in the BEST TWO (2) classes in the Artistic category.

Most Outstanding Live Cooking GREENHORN Chef Award:

- Cash Reward: RM 1000.00

- Awarded to the competitor with at least ONE (1) Gold Medal (gold with distinction considered as gold) in the BEST THREE (3) classes in the Live Cooking category (Class GH12 – Class GH23).

Certainly! Here's a summary of the overall rules and regulations for the GREENHORN AWARDS:

General Rules:

1. Open to professionals and students from hotels, restaurants, confectionaries, culinary institutions, or catering organizations in Malaysia and other countries.

2. Competitors must wear their uniforms at all times within the competition area and exhibition hall.

3. Sticker labels provided for participants to affix to the top and underside of their dish with competition numbers.

4. Competitors must place their recipes by the side of their dish or exhibit on the competition day.

5. Every exhibit must be the genuine work of the competitor.

6. Registration and payment must be done online before the due date. No refunds for any reason after payment.

7. Competitors advised to refrain from talking to judges before or during judging, except during Q&A sessions.

8. Size limits must be adhered to; points deducted for exceeding limits. Extreme cases may result in removal or modification by the organizer.

9. Practical class competitors must report to the kitchen secretariats one hour before their competitions.

10. Judges can examine, dismantle, or cut showpieces for inspection; non-compliance leads to disqualification.

11. Competitors must attend to, unpack, and display their exhibit at the specified time; no responsibility for damage or loss in transit.

12. Certificates of participation must be collected by 4:00 pm on the competition day.

13. Judges' decisions are final.

14. Organizing committee owns intellectual property rights for event-related photographs, slides, etc., for future promotional purposes.

15. Cooking wine and alcohol are allowed; strictly no pork or pork items.

16. Mise-en-place, cutting, washing can be done earlier, except for spice preparation like curry paste, which must be done on the spot.

17. All food items must be edible.

18. Display plates should not bear any company/hotel logo.

19. The organizing committee reserves the right to modify, add, or rescind rules and conditions. They can also interpret rules and limit entries or cancel events if needed.

General Information:

1. Exhibits must be set up between 7:00 am to 9:45 am on the judging day; no entry once judging starts at 10:00 am.

2. A theme or name must be given to display exhibits, and no logo must be visible on the display card before judging.

3. No clearing is allowed before 9:00 pm on June 27th and 28th, 2024.

4. Selected exhibits must remain in the exhibition hall until the last day and must be cleared at 5:00 pm on June 29th, 2024.

5. Strict regulations on the import of raw food materials; competitors advised to use local or/and imported products available locally.
