TIPS
Browningthe stew meat first adds an extra layer of flavor.
I always add 1/4 to 1/3 cup of red wine to beef stroganoff – so good.
You can use Healthy Request Golden Mushroom Soup for this recipe, if you are not able to find regular condensed Golden Mushroom soup, however it may be a bit bland. Adding 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce and 1/4 to 1/3 cup red wine makes it super tasty!
Adjust cooking time according to how fast/slow your slow cooker cooks.

My husband and I both loved this recipe. Perfect as written and easy! No wine used. One pound of stew beef was good for both of us, but if you had more people eating, I’d up the stew beef to two pounds. Served over buttered noodles. Yum

This basic recipe is an excellent starter! I however am incapable of following a recipe so here are the changes I made after reading the comments: first I used 2 pounds of beef because that’s what I had in the freezer I coated that with 3T of flour and some garlic salt and pepper then sautéed in a bit of oil.I used a lot more mushrooms and onions, I used the two cans of golden mushroom soup and sour cream as directed. I also added a couple of tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce and more garlic powder and a little beef base. The recipe just need a little more seasoning and the flour really helped to thicken the sauce! I recommend making it and adding seasonings to individualize it to your liking!!

I just mixed this up today, I opened the can of Golden Mushroom soup and it is tomato based. I have never seen a tomato based Beef Stroganoff, disappointed.

I made this yesterday, it was good but I think it should have been thickened with some flour. It was thin when we put it over the noodles. Lots of good flavor and my husband and son enjoyed it.

Try adding in a block of cream cheese a half hour before it’s done. Thickens the liquid and adds flavor

Do you use soup AND water, or just the soup?
The instructions on the can say to add a can full of water but I assume you would have included that. Thanks!Reply
Mary Neumann
You are correct, Emily – no water, ignore the can. But if you have some red wine, that’s a great addition (1/4 to 1/3 cup).

So I made it…See my previous comment about cooking time. Ended up cooking it for ALMOST 3 hours on high and had to turn it to low because of the meat. Never using stew meat again. 🤦🏼♀️ It was tough, so I had to use my kitchen sheers to sort of shred it to make it edible. After about 4 hours, still Very soupy, so I added a cornstarch water mixture to thicken it up. Still bland. Added salt, more pepper and Worcestershire sauce. Added the cup of sour cream and that was waaayyy too much. Probably should only use 1/2 cup. Sorry, I won’t be using this recipe again.

Has anyone made this on high? I need to make dinner for our elderly neighbors and they really want this tonight which means I’d have to cook in high for 4 hours. Hoping it will still turn out good?!? 🙏🏻

When you say 325°. Are you referring to making this in the oven? Or on high in the slow cooker? For 3 -1/2 hours?
