Late last year, we rebuilt our mobile app to help make talking with your friends way faster, way smoother, and way easier. The UI was streamlined to help you see what they're up to, start or join group chats faster, and we even added new ways to make Discord your own (you're finally official, OLED theme!).

Users who break the rules will receive a system direct message (DM) from Discord letting them know they received a violation. Users will receive a DM each time they break our rules. Within the DM, users will see a card that summarizes the violation.

With the right privacy settings and monitoring, it's easy to use Discord safely. However, there's always a risk when it comes to sites and apps with open chat. The safest way to use Discord is to only accept friend requests and participate in private servers with people you already know.

Discord's Terms of Service requires people to be over a minimum age to access our app or website, so we are introducing a system to verify that users satisfy that minimum age requirement. We do this to keep our users safe and ensure they don't encounter material that's not appropriate for them.

NSFW channels will be invisible to people under 13 years old and kids cannot send friend requests without their parent's permission. Also, kids cannot chat in voice channels except with their friends and bots.

The COPPA rule says a child can be under 13, as long as they have parental permission and supervision, with the guardian having full management of the account.

If a user is reported as being under 13, Discord will lock the user out of their account until they can verify their age with an official ID.

Discord Official Messages are messages that we send to alert you of an account issue. These messages can range from a variety of Payment issues, Support Ticket Updates, and ToS Violation Warnings.

When you are banned from a Discord server for any reason, no notification is displayed with the reason for the ban (if there is a reason).

When we become aware of content that violates our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, our Safety team reviews and takes the necessary enforcement actions, including: disabling accounts, removing servers, and when appropriate, engaging with the proper authorities.
