Peter and Rose's efforts in The Night Agent were repeatedly ruined by the interference of a mysterious mole in the White House. For much of the series, the character in question managed to keep the villains a few steps ahead of the protagonists. Their inability to get anything past the mole served as one of their greatest obstacles in the Netflix spy thriller.
Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan lead the cast of The Night Agent as their characters, Peter and Rose, work to foil the plans of the vice president, Ashley Redfield, and his co-conspirator, Gordon Wick. With few allies, Peter and Rose quickly realize they cannot trust as many people as they thought they could. Even by relying on outside help, such as Cisco, however, Peter and Rose still found themselves getting one-upped by the villains and their assassins, who always seemed to be on to them. And of course, all of these challenges were owed to Redfield and Wick's secret ally in the White House.
Diane Farr Is The Mole In The Night Agent Season 1
In a shocking twist, it's revealed that Diane Farr is the White House mole and the reason why Peter and Rose can never go far without being caught. Diane was Peter’s boss on The White House side of his job, and they are shown to be close, with Diane being the one who hired him for the Night Action program. Trusting Diane, Peter keeps her updated on his and Rose’s movements, as well as filling her in on their discoveries. Although Rose is wary, Peter is adamant Diane is not the traitor in The Night Agent, and he remains unaware she is blocking his information from going to the President.
Via a flashback, the series shed light on how and when Diane was brought into the plot within the White House. Diane was not originally part of the metro bombing, but Redfield and Wick brought her in to clean up their mess after the fact. Diane was enraged by their actions, but when Wick and Redfield claimed the administration and the president's reputation would be under threat, Diane reluctantly agreed to participate in the cover-up. As the Chief of Staff, Diane was able to manipulate events within the White House and derail any investigation that pointed toward Wick and Redfield, as well as keep an eye on Peter, whom she personally hired for the Night Action program. As Peter himself pointed out, she clearly thought he could be controlled.

How Peter Knew Diane Was The Mole
Peter was very trusting of Diane Farr in The Night Agent especially as his other boss, Hawkins, was particularly dismissive of him due to accusations of Peter’s father being a traitor. The support she provided made it easy for him to consider her an ally, even when she became the obvious suspect. Peter had frequently gone into the White House to update Diane on the case but was smart enough to leave Rose in a safe place as he knew there was a mole in the White House, just not that it was Diane. In one meeting, Peter mentions he had hidden her with a friend, but provided no specifics. Peter's reaction to Diane calling this person his “trooper friend” showed that he knew exactly what her comment meant. She couldn't have known about Cisco unless she was spying on him somehow.
Peter had suspected Diane earlier when assassins were sent to the house Peter and Rose were staying in, since only Diane knew about it. However, she succeeded in fooling him by claiming staff had found spyware on her phone. This had given Diane more time to gain information from Peter and Rose, as well as place a tracker on their car. With Peter figuring out Diane was the mole, he was able to escape from the White House and send Diane, Wick, and Redfield’s plans into more chaos. It was by figuring out Diane's part in it that they were able to make it as far as they did in the series.
Who Killed Rose Larkin's Aunt & Uncle (& Why)
The murders of Rose’s aunt and uncle, Emma and Henry, were what caused Farr’s plan with Wick and Redfield to unravel, as well as what thrust Rose and Peter into the same mess. The actual killings of Emma and Henry were done by Dale and Ellen, two assassins who then continued to chase Peter and Rose for the majority of The Night Agent's story. However, Dale and Ellen were just assassins for hire and the orders came from Wick, Redfield, and Farr, whose involvement was confirmed during a heated exchange with Peter and Rose.
As revealed in the first episode of The Night Agent, Rose’s aunt and uncle were killed because they were starting to figure out the truth behind the metro bombing and that it was actually being used as a way to kill Omar Zadar, but they referred to him by his code name, Osprey. If Emma and Henry were able to pass this information on to the President, it would have uncovered the truth behind the metro bombing and Redfield, Farr, and Wick's roles would have been exposed. Their deaths at the beginning of The Night Agent caused Peter and Rose to take on their task, and eventually unveil the truth behind everything that had happened.
